One Turkish Red Crescent worker has died and one worker has been wounded in an armed attack launched against the vehicle of the Red Crescent while it was underway in northern Syria.
One worker has also survived the incident without any wounds.
In a statement released by the Red Crescent, it has been indicated that even though there was distinctively an emblem of the Red Crescent on the vehicle, it was caught in a crossfire by people wearing masks and camouflage clothing who were underway in two vehicles without license plates. The incident happened between Çobanbey (Al-Rai) and al-Bab.
Wounded worker in treatment
While the wounded Red Crescent worker is now in treatment in the Al-Rai town in Aleppo, the worker is reportedly not in a critical condition and will be referred to Turkey following the first medical treatment in Syria.
Arriving in the scene of the incident, Turkish Red Crescent Chair Kerem Kınık has "strongly condemned the attack targeting the Red Crescent personnel who are to be protected according to the international law and who have immunity as per the international humanitarian law as they distinctively have the Red Crescent emblem on them."
Extending his condolences to the Red Crescent community, Kınık has also expressed his belief that "the assaulters will be caught in the shortest time possible" with the efforts of Turkey. (EMK/SD)
