The Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) Ecology Assembly has released a statement to mark September 1 World Peace Day.
"As in several parts of the world, we are marking this day amid worries about the future, economic crisis, political tension, ecological concerns caused by the climate crisis and pandemic nightmare," the HDK has said.
Other highlights from its statement are as follows:
"While war means hunger, poverty and death for millions of people, it means extinction for the ecosystem and all living beings living in the region anywhere in the world. This war is not their war, it has never been. With its price paid by millions of people and other living beings, war is, in fact, nothing other than the dominant groups' quarrel for sharing and conflict of interests. Growth and attack are in the nature of capitalist system.
"The most important point to be kept in mind by the ones who want a better, more livable nature and respect for all living beings is that both the ecology struggle and the modest struggle of millions of people to survive have two sides: Those who want war and those who do not. Or, more precisely, the ones who want peace... As long as one of them exists and keeps growing, the other will disappear. For this very reason, we, as the ecology movement, choose peace and declare that we struggle for peace.
"Accordingly, we invite all persons and institutions struggling for ecology and all other sensitive circles to stand on the peace front.
"Long live the human's peace with human, long live the human's peace with nature for a just and democratic order where people of different faiths and nationalities can live together in freedom and equality and all living beings and nature are respected. Long live peace!" (AÖ/SD)
