Musician Ferhat Tunç has shared a video message on his YouTube channel on the occasion of September 1 World Peace Day.
"Both war and peace affect us. It stops life above everything else and we lose young lives from both sides. Nothing can replace these losses," Tunç has said, making a call for unity for peace.
'War leads to a belligerent society'
Tunç has said the following in his message:
"War turns our economy upside down. War makes us poor, leaving us as a country where no one make any investments. The budget of our healthcare and education is spent on bombs and, as we see these days, we cannot be treated in a way that we deserve.
"War turns a society into a belligerent one, putting the society away from civilization. War turns us into nervous and anxious people and we cannot be productive in any area of life.
'Don't buy bombs with our elbow grease'
"We need peace to be able to stay alive. So that bombs are not bought with our elbow grease and children do not die...
"Nothing can be gained from war, but the ones who win by their war policies are those holding their interests in higher esteem than society's future.
'The opposition has the most important role'
"We must say our word in the face of the government's policies of war. The opposition has the most important role here. Even if they cannot unite for anything else, they need to unite for peace.
"There is a need for an opposition that is not a part of the government's crimes, tells the society that we do not have to wage a war and makes its greatest efforts to establish a democratic order in this land. War prevents any discussion other than itself and leads the country to deteriorate further and further." (TP/SD)
