The police raided the house of Betül Yaşar, the Co-Mayor of Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) Diyadin Municipality in eastern Ağrı province.
Searching her house, the police have detained Yaşar and took her to the Diyadin District Security Directorate.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Mesut Arslan and Mustafa Alparslan have also been detained in house raids in the city.
As part of the same investigation, the house of Zeynel Abidin Bozkurt in Düzce province in western Turkey was also raided. He has been detained.
Municipality blockaded by the police
As announced by HDP Ağrı MP Abdullah Koç, the police entered the municipality building by breaking down the door and they are currently carrying out a search in the municipality.
The police have also blocked the building, letting no one enter.
Trustees appointed to 46 municipalities
In the last local elections on March 31, 2019, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) won 65 municipalities across Turkey.
Three of these 65 municipalities were metropolitan municipalities, five of them were provincial, 45 were district and 12 were town municipalities.
While trustees have been appointed to 46 of these municipalities, the certificates of elections of six elected mayors were not given as they had been discharged from public service by a Statutory Decree. (TP/SD)
