The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has announced that 82 convicts and arrestees have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Silivri Prison in İstanbul. One convict has died of the virus.
The last statement about the issue was done on May 8, when the public was informed that 44 prisoners had tested positive in Silivri Prison.
In its statement today (May 22), the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has noted that the contact tracing has been regularly carried out in coordination with the İstanbul Provincial Directorate of Health since then.
"As of today, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Silivri Prison is 82, with 47 cases in Silivri No. 7 Type L Prison and 35 cases in Silivri No. 8 Type L Prison," the Prosecutor's Office has said and shared the following information about the convict who died of the virus:
"A convict with chronic lung diseases such as tuberculosis was referred to a medical institution on May 7, testing negative for the virus on the same day. As the test turned positive in the course of treatment, the convict died on May 21 at 5.45 p.m. while being treated in intensive care at the hospital."
'Families informed about the treatment processes'
The statement of the Prosecutor's Office has also noted that the 82 arrestees and convicts who have tested positive for the virus are in good general health and they are still under treatment for the disease.
"Of these persons, 72 arrestees/convicts who showed no symptoms of the disease are being treated under the supervision of a physician in an isolated area while 10 of them are treated at hospitals. Their families have been informed about their treatment processes," the statement has added. (AÖ/SD)
