Diyarbakır Governorship has announced that in an attack carried out by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) against a civilian vehicle in Turkey's southeastern district of Hani in Diyarbakır, the Gendarmerie Sergeant Major Sergen Çakmak and voluntary village guard Yaseeddin Opçin have lost their lives.
In the written statement issued by the Governorship, it has been stated that "the vehicle which was en route along Şekale Tepe section of Topçular Highway in Hani district in Diyarbakır was shot at on March 19 around 3.05 p.m."
For Çakmak and Opçin, who have lost their lives in the attack, a farewell ceremony will be held today (March 20) in Diyarbakır. Opçin will be buried in Diyarbakır and Çakmak will be buried in Bayraklı district in İzmir.
The security forces referred to the region after the attack have launched an operation. (AS/SD)
