Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Antep MP Mahmut Toğrul has been battered by Justice and Development Party (AKP) MPs and his scapula was broken as Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly recessed. Toğrul was given medical report of 45 days.
The incident wasn’t included in the parliamentary minutes since it occurred during the recess. HDP MPs stated that as many as 50 MPs walked up to Toğrul and a lynch attempt took place.
Speaking to bianet, Toğrul said, “This was a lynch attempt and it was planned. I made a speech about killings of civilians and wounded people including children in Afrin. They were being disturbed by it. Bad things are happening in Afrin and they don’t want these to be shared with public”.
HDP Group Deputy Chair Meral Danış Beştaş told bianet, “An assault relying on personal power, brute force and numerical superiority occurred. This is AKP government’s assault on the opposition”.
Kerestecioğlu: They're in a rush to pass the bills
HDP İstanbul MP Filiz Kerestecioğlu said that the tension escalated upon them demanding quorum during voting of omnibus bill, and added “They are in a rush, they try to pass the bills rapidly. They don’t want to pass them through discussion and deliberation”.
In response to AKP MPs shouting at them “You are going to behave like a man”, Kerestecioğlu said, “No! We are going to behave like a woman and you will learn this manners”. (ÇT/TK)
