Hatay 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace has ruled for 17 people, who made a statement for the press objecting to the Operation Olive Branch launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) and Free Syrian Army (FSA) into Afrin, Syria, to be released on probation.
Human Rights Association (İHD) Hatay Branch Chair Mithat Can is also among those who were released.
Detained on February 13, the 17 figures were sent to judgeship for arrest by the prosecutor’s office following their deposition.
Speaking to bianet, lawyer Hatice Can had said that reason for the operation was the statement for the press held at İHD Hatay Branch building on January 22.
Mithat Can had read out the statement prepared by Hatay Labor and Democracy Forces.
In the statement, Can said, “All peoples in Turkey and in the region have come up against a serious war and destruction with the bombings on Afrin”. (AS/TK)
