Imprisoned in Tarsus Type T Closed Prison, Seyran Demir (30) has cancer and Hepatitis-B. Demir’s demand for release was rejected.
Writing a letter to the Human Rights Association (İHD), Demir explained that she has to be nourished with baby formula due to wounds in her mouth and for this reason, she dropped to 35 kilos. In the letter, Demir wrote that she was “taken to hospital by prison shuttle though she is sick, tortured during the transfer, and she was subjected to insult, swearing and psychological pressure by soldiers and guardians after she returned to the prison”.
Speaking to Demir on the phone on December 13, 2017, Nadir Demir said, “She has only two teeth left in her mouth so can’t eat. She has to feed on baby formula”.
Diagnosed cancer in 2006 in Yüksekova, Hakkari, Seyran Demir was arrested and sent to Muş Type E Prison in 2013 when she was under treatment in Ankara. Released in the hearing held in August 2014, Demir was detained in Urfa on November 25, 2015.
Arrested and sent to Urfa Type E Prison, Demir was kept in a confinement cell for 26 days. She was then sent to Adana Karataş Women’s Prison first and then to Tarsus Prison.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Ağrı MP Berdan Öztürk has submitted parliamentary inquiry about Demir’s condition. (AS/TK)
