Environmental Impact Assessment (ÇED) People’s Attendance Meeting for the project that zones Fatih Forest to construction was held today (November 28). Attendance of life defenders who made a statement ahead of the meeting was blocked with police barricade.
Coming together at Fatih Forest Darüşşafaka gate prior to the meeting, the life defenders marched to the building where the meeting would be held and issued a statement for the press.
After the statement, the life defenders attempted to attend the ÇED meeting. They were blocked by the police even though they were legally entitled to attend the meeting.
What happened?
Fatih Forest was declared Fatih Forest Natural Park in 2008. An application was made by Bilgili ve Doğuş Ege Turizm ve Gayrimenkul Yatırımları A.Ş for “Park Orman Natural Park” project that includes 108 villas, a saloon of 5 thousand people, shops and restaurants.
In 2015, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization decided that “ÇED is not required” for the project. Environment Engineers, City Planners and Chamber of Architects’ İstanbul branches sued the project.
The project was cancelled by court order in 2016.
In its statement on November 22, the Northern Forests Defense announced that another ÇED process was launched for the project and license of the Fatih Forest was given to Ege Turizm ve Gayrimenkul Yatırımları A.Ş by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
