The Human Rights Association (İHD) stated that the state of emergency, which will be discussed today at the National Security Council today (October 16), must not be extended, on the contrary it must be ended as soon as possible.
The state of emergency declared in Turkey on July 21, 2016 has been extended five times so far. It is expected to be extended for the sixth time today.
“No jurisdiction left for judicial control over statutory decrees”
“The jurisdiction has been disabled due to negative impacts of anti-coup period and public administration being suppressed. No jurisdiction is left to put the statutory decrees to judicial control.
“Amendments have been made in around 300 codes for 306 times and the judicial system has been completely changed. The state of emergency regime has been made permanent”.
“Warnings came from Europe”
“Commissioner for Council of Europe Human Rights visited Turkey a couple of times and prepared reports on it. The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe visited Turkey four times and prepared reports.
“The most important warning to Turkey came from the Council of Europe. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s resolution to take Turkey under political monitoring on April 25, 2017 is a highly important decision.
“In this resolution, it was stated that Turkey must end the state of emergency, and politicians, journalists and activists who are in prison because of their thoughts must be released”. (AS/TK)
