Academic Koray Çalışkan was detained this morning (July 10).
The detention was announced by Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Oğuz Kaan Salıcı with the following tweet: “Koray Çalışkan has just been detained from his home. The legislative intention is not clear, one more time academic whose address is known hasn’t been summoned to testify”.
Who is Koray Çalışkan?
Koray Çalışkan was born on June 30, 1972 in İstanbul.
He is serving as Assoc. Prof. Dr. in Department of Political Sciences and International Relations at Boğaziçi University. Carrying out researches on political economy, political party organization and Middle East politics, Çalışkan’s dissertation was selected Best Social Science Dissertation in in Social Sciences Middle East Studies Association of North America.
He did the PhD in New York University. He worked as columnist at Radikal and BirGün newspapers. He served as producer, director and screen-writer in many films.
It was rumored that he would be nominated MP candidate by the CHP in 2015 but he wasn’t. (NV/TK)
