12 academics, who faced investigation for signing peace declaration, have been discharged from Dokuz Eylül University.
The discharged academics are as follows: Medical Faculty Academic Members Prof. Dr. Cem Terzi, Prof. Dr. İzge Günal, Prof. Dr. Halil Resmi, Doç. Dr. Halis Ulaş; Faculty of Economy Academic Members Prof. Dr. Ayşen Uysal, Dr. Nuri Erkin Başer, Research Members Aydın Arı, Dilek Karabulut and Serap Sarıtaş, Faculty of Fine Arts Academic Member Emel Yuvayapan, Assoc. Prof.. Dr. Seçkin Aydın and Prof. Dr. Yeşim Edis Şahin.

bianet'e konuşan Prof. Dr. Ayşen Uysal, "Bize ne bu ünvanı ne de başarıyı kimse bahşetti, o yüzden de elimizden almak öyle kolay değil. Mücadelemiz zaten devam ediyordu, şimdi daha hızlı devam edecek. Bizi sokağa çağırdılar. Sokak başımızın tacıdır" dedi.
Uysal: Streets are more than welcome to us
Speaking to bianet, Prof. Dr. Ayşen Uysal said that "No one has bestowed us this title or success, and that's why it is not easy to take it away from us. Our struggle was continuing, not it will continue even faster. They called us to the strets. Streets are more than welcome to us".
Through a declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime” signed on January 11 with 1,128 signatures, Academics for Peace had called on Turkish state to end violence and prepare conditions for negotiation.
The signatory academics faced investigations, discharges and detention. Of the signatory academics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Mungan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meral Camcı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Kaya and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kıvanç Ersoy were arrested on charge of “propagandizing for a terror organization”. The four academics were released in the first hearing held on April 22. The trial continues.
Since September 1, 2016, 5,295 academics have been discharged through seven statutory decrees put into effect under the State of Emergency. 113 of them have been reinstated to their jobs through another statutory decree. (NV/TK)
