Nine people who were detained during staging a protest in support of academic Nuriye Gülmen and teacher Semih Özakça in İstanbul’s district of Kadıköy have been released.
Özakça and Gülmen have been on hunger strike for 75 days to be reinstated to their jobs.
Support hunger strikes for one day for Gülmen and Özakça began in Kadıköy on May 5. On May 20, police attacked the protest carried out by the Women for Peace Initiative.
Nine people seven of whom were women issued a statement for the press with their lawyers in front of the İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan following their release.
Those detained in Kartal and Üsküdar were released as well
The police attacked and detained the protesters in Kartal and Üsküdar.
The people who were detained in these districts were released as well after they gave statements to the prosecutor’s office. (TP/EKN/TK)
