Attorneys, who wanted to issue a statement for the press for academic Nuriye Gülmen and teacher Semih Özakça, who are on the 65th day of the hunger strike they went on with the demand that they be reinstituted to their jobs, have been detained.
Progressive Legists Association (ÇHD) Secretary General Nergiz Tuba Aslan, Gül Kireçkaya and Emel Diril from the ÇHD İzmir Branch wanted to protest the authorities’ unresponsiveness by standing with photos in their hands in front of İzmir Governorship.
All three lawyers were taken into custody by being dragged on the floor by riot squad forces.
ÇHD İzmir Branch Chair Serdar Gültekin and attorneys Şule Aslan Hızla and Nazlı Akın, who attempted to go to the Security Bureau Directorate to get information about their detained colleagues were battered by the police. (AS/TK)
