Academic Ozan Devrim Yay, who was discharged from Anadolu University through a statutory decree (KHK), was taken into custody this morning (May 11). Yay was among the academics who signed the declaration entitled “We will not be a Party to This Crime”.
According to the information that his attorney Ali Çuvalcı shared with bianet, there is confidentiality order on the file. No official documents were shown to the attorneys.
Yay was one of the academics who were relieved of civil service through the KHK No. 686 dated February 7, 2017.
The Academics for Peace announced Yay’s detention on Twitter.
Çuvalcı: There is confidentiality order on the file
The police units searched Yay’s home this morning, according to the information that Çuvalcı gave. Some of his books, his computer, cell phone and flash disks were seized during the 4-hour search.
Attorney Çuvalcı stated that he met with Yay at the Anti-Terror Bureau.
“His medical condition is fine, his spirits are high. There is confidentiality order on the file. Three more people were detained in the same operation. They didn’t present us any written document concerning the reason of his detention. It was verbally stated that the detention is not linked with the declaration”. (BK/TK)
