Families of the prisoners, who are arrested or convicted of PKK and PJAK trials and started hunger strike on February 15 in İzmir Şakran Prison, have as well started hunger strike.
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Regions Party (DBP), Free Women’s Movement (TJA), and Democratic Society Congress (DTK) members support the hunger strike led by the prisoners’ families.
According to information given to bianet by DBP Diyarbakır Provincial manager Celal Aldemir, who is himself on hunger strike too, the hunger strike being carried out 23 people will continue in rotation at intervals of two days.
Stating that they “started hunger strikes to prevent deaths”, Aldemir went on:
“The prisoners have very humane and natural demands. The attitudes in the prisons are inhumane and unethical. We demand the rights already present in the law. We wanted to make ourselves heard to prevent deaths and we’ve resorted to this protest with solidarity”.
Demands of the strikers
The demands of the hunger strikers are as follows:
* Heavy isolation conditions for PKK’s imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan be lifted
* Bans and destruction in Kurdish cities be ended
* Bad attitude against the prisoners be changed.
How many prisoners on strike in which prisons?
According to the report, the prisons in which the indefinite and non-rotating hunger strikes continue and the number of days the prisoners carry out the hunger strike are as follows:
* 5 women prisoners from Şakran Hospital are on 49th day, 7 prisoners from Şakran T4 Prison on the 21st, 8 others on the 42nd and 12 prisoners from Şakran T2 and T3 prisons are on the 56th day of the hunger strike
* 7 women prisoners from Sincan Women's Prison on the 48th day
* 10 prisoners in Tekirdağ Prison on the 30th day of the hunger strike
* 5 women prisoners in Tarsus Women's Prison on the 28th day of the hunger strike
* 10 prisoners in Bolu type-F Prison on the 13th day and
* 11 prisoners in Hatay type T Prison on the 11th day of the hunger strike.
* 4 prisoners in Düzce type T Prison on the 8th day of the hunger strike.
* 4 prisoners in Menemen prison on the 7th day of the hunger strike
* 7 prisoners in Gebze type M prison on the 7th day of the hunger strike
* 10 prisoners in Silivri No. 5 prison on the 7th day of the hunger strike
* 3 prisoners in Ceyhan type M on the 6th day of the hunger strike
