First hearing of the trial concerning 15-year-old Berkin Elvan being killed with a gas cartridge during the Gezi Protests was held yesterday (April 6).
The participation was broad in the hearing.
Police officer F.D. charged with “murder with eventual intent” pleaded, Elvan family voiced their demand for arrest.
Mentioning the deficiencies in the investigation file, attorneys representing Elvan family expressed their demands. Attorney Oya Aslan played the footage of the incident and demanded that the suspect police be arrested.
Second hearing is on July 6
The chief judge rejected the arrest demand and ruled that the trial continue on July 6, 2017 at 10 a.m.
Defendant: I don’t remember clearly
The defendant pleaded via Audio and Visual Information system. “I didn’t use a gas rifle that could lead to death of someone. I didn’t cause anyone’s death”, the defendant said and added that he doesn’t remember much since too much time has passed over it. (BK/TK)
