A protest has been staged in front of Marmara University Faculty of Law Haydarpaşa Campus within İstanbul’s Kadıköy district against expulsions of academics.
A large number of people including the expelled academics, their colleagues, graduates, students, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Sezgin Tanrıkulu attended the protest.
Of the expelled academics, Head of Department of Constitutional Law at Marmara University Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kaboğlu, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ceren Akçabay, academic members Can Yalçın Armutçuoğlu and Hülya Dinçer reacted against the expulsions.
330 academics from 48 universities were expelled from public service by Statutory Decree No. 686 dated February 7.
Six of the 23 academics from Marmara University were from the Faculty of Law. The academics will continue to make statements throughout the week. (NÖ/BK/TK)
