Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality hasn’t renewed contract of City Theater players.
31 people were laid off by having their contract cancelled. There are players acting for over 25 years as well as co-art directors among the theater players.
Contracts of the players were expected to be renewed on December 31.
With the latest lays off, there is no player left in the city theater.
What had happened?
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı were taken into custody on October 25, 2016 and arrested on October 30. Ankara’s district of Etimesgut sub-Governor Cumali Atilla was appointed to Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality as the new mayor on November 1.
Following the State of Emergency declared on July 21, 2016, a way has been paved for trustees to be appointed to municipalities, which are governed by elected mayors, by means of Statutory Decree No. 674 and certain amendments in Municipality Statute.
The number of trustees appointed to municipalities has reached 53 until December 25, 2016. 49 of these municipalities were governed by the Democratic Regions Party (DBP). (BD/HK/TK)
