A solidarity night has been organized for arrested writer Aslı Erdoğan simultaneously in cities of Paris, Nantes and Bordeaux.
Attended by 200 people, the night was opened with reading out of Aslı Erdoğan’s letter that she wrote in prison on December 5.
Stating that some 150 journalists are in prison, Erdoğan said “We owe even our existence to freedom of expression”.
Aslı Erdoğan’s mother Mine Aydostlu, Actes Sud editor, manager of “Turkish letters” collection Timour Muhidine, Actes Sud Director Françoise Nyssen and writer-translator Yiğit Bener attended the night.
Remarking that a publishing house has to advocate freedom of expression, Nyssen said “Aslı Erdoğan’s words are in her books and we have to publish them. Actes Sud is with her, we are waiting for her”.
The literary columns that caused arrest of Aslı Erdoğan will be published by Actes Sud in January 2017. These pieces were read out in French and Turkish.
Of Özgür Gündem daily’s Publishing Consultant Board member and writers, Aslı Erdoğan has been arrested since August 19. (NV/TK)
