The case of cyclist Christian Jean Auguste Niaffe from France, who travelled more than 40 countries by his bicycle and died in a car crash in Turkey, was concluded today.
The suspect N.K. was sentenced to 5 years in prison over “reckless homicide” by Marmaris 4th Criminal Court of First Instance but it was converted into fine of 38,000 TL (10,850 euros).
Niaffe had lost his life due to the car hitting him as he was cycling on special purpose lane in Taşhan position of Marmaris district in Muğla province on May 24, 2015.
In the verdict on November 4, first the penalt was reduced to 4 years and 2 months in prison due to penalty’s impact on suspect’s social relations. Then, the penalty was converted into the fine by taking into account of suspect’s socio-economical condition. (NV/TK)
