In the attack carried out by members of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Şemdinli district of Hakkari Yesterday (October 9), 10 soldiers and eight civilians have lost their lives, 11 soldiers and 16 civilians have been injured.
The attack on Şemdinli-Yüksekova road, in front of the Durak Gendarmerie Station was reportedly carried out through the detonation of a bomb-laden vehicle.
Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced that eight soldiers were killed and five others injured according to the initial findings. In a following statement, TSK has added that the death toll has risen to nine and 11 soldiers have been injured.
Subsequently, Hakkari Governor Cüneyit Orhan Toprak has stated that 17 people in total consisting of nine soldiers and eight civilians had lost their lives and 27 others were injured.
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has also announced that the death toll has risen to 18, 10 soldiers and eight civilians had lost their lives in the attack.
The people who were injured were sent to Şemdinli State Hospital and Yüksekova State Hospital.

In its statement at 12:10 p.m. Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has announced that a gag order was imposed on the images of the incident scene and statements regarding the incident.
Governor: 4-5 tons of explosives used
Hakkari Governor Cüneyit Orhan Toprak, in his statement he made on the crime scene has said that approximately 4-5 tons of explosives were used in the attack.
