An armed fight occurred between members of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and security units in Yüksekova district of Hakkari yesterday (September 28) night.
The armed fight stemmed from the fire opened by the PKK members on the village guards who were in charge of ensuring the security of the vehicles in service for the road construction works carried out in Yukarı Olukbaşı hamlet of Yeniışık village in Büyükçiftlik Municipality of Yüksekova district.
According to Yüksekova News, the names of the three village guards who lost their lives are Kemal Özbek, Rıfat Dilce and Ömer Özbiçen.
State-run Anadolu Agency and Doğan News Agency have reported that two other guards were injured in the incident. They were brought to Yüksekova State Hospital for treatment.
Armoured vehicles were dispatched to the region and an air supported operation was launched. (AS/DG)
