The Human Rights Association (İHD) has launched a petition demanding repeal of State of Emergency (OHAL) and of Statutory Decrees (KHK) enacted during the State of Emergency.
As to the petition that started today (September 27) and to last for 10 days, İHD representative made press statements in Diyarbakır, İstanbul, Ankara, Adana and Hatay.
Following institutions have supported the petition: Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV), Libertarian Legists Association (ÖHD), Libertarian Democrat Attorneys (ÖDAV), İstanbul Chamber of Medicine, İstanbul LGBTİ Solidarity, Hevi LGBTİ.
Noting that even if an OHAL is legitimate, it must still abide by transnational legal norms, the petition shared the following data:
“According to the data obtained from the statements delivered by official authorities at different dates, the figures in the first 50 days are as follows: 40,000 detentions, 20,000 arrests and 80,000 suspensions. 45 newspapers, 24 radio and 18 TV channels, 15 magazines, 29 publishing houses, 3 news agencies were shut down. 100 hundred journalists were detained, 37 journalists arrested, trustees appointed to 28 municipalities. Kurdish village chiefs were discharged from their duty in some cities”. (AS/TK)
