39 Academics Arrested in Denizli

Nine of the 12 academics, who were detained under the scope of the operation launched against the Fethullah Gülen Community as part of the July 15 coup attempt investigation and then released on probation have been detained again.

Nine academics have been arrested.

43 figures, among whom are Pamukkale University (PAÜ) Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bağcı, General Secretary Prof. Dr. Kenan Çoyan and deans, professors, assoc. professors, assist. professors, teaching assistants, executive assistant and nurses, were taken into custody on August 9.

Prof. Yağcı has been suspended by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

Prof. Dr. Bağcı has been released on probation by the court to which he was referred a day after.

The other 42 detained academics who serve at various units at PAÜ were sent to court on

Wednesday (August 10). 30 of those who were sent to court were arrested.

The first arrestees are as follows:

Prof. Dr. Ali İhsan Bozkurt, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şerife Akalın, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emin Mete, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Rıza Tarakçılar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Yağcı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasalettin Deligöz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kudret Gezer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Kıroğlu, Assist. Prof. Dr.Şevket Civelek, Assist. Prof. Dr. Kadir Ağladıoğlu, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nurettin Bilgen, academic members Aksun Akbıyık, Zeki Kasap, nurses Ayşe Kaplan, Mine Yanık and officer Hakan Yörükoğlu

12 academics were released; however, arrest warrants have been issued for nine of the 12 figures upon the prosecution’s demand.

After the decision, General Secretary Prof. Dr. Kenan Çoyan, ,Prof. Dr. Ilgaz Akdoğan, Prof. Dr. Bayram Çırak, Prof. Dr. Ali Keskin, Assos. Prof. Dr. Hakan İsmail Sarı, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Koçyiğit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Işık Balcı, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fethullah Kenar and Assistant Executive Ahmet Erdoğmuş have been arrested. (EA/TK)
