Ergün Yorulmaz, a former staff member at the Trabzon Gendarmerie Intelligence Branch Office, who had been detained as part of the Agos weekly Chief Editor Hrant Dink murder probe, has been arrested.
According to Agos weekly, Gökhan Yorulmaz, who was detained by Gökalp Kökçü, one of the attorneys of the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office´s Terrorism and Organized Crimes Bureau, has been taken to the İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after the procedures in the police department.
After his testimony, Yorulmaz was sent to the courthouse for arrest and was arrested yesterday (August 7).
What had happened?
As part of the probe, which was launched by the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office´s Terrorism and Organized Crimes Bureau, it was confirmed that there were gendarmerie staff at the crime scene during the hours in which Hrant Dink was killed.
The Attorney’s Office examined the gendarmes who had been confirmed to be at the crime scene , and found out that lieutenant colonel M.D was at the center of cell phone traffic. According to records of Historical Traffic Search (HTS) it was confirmed that M.D was the one who was ensuring the coordination between Trabzon and İstanbul Gendarmerie Intelligences.
Attorney Gökalp Kökçü didn’t include the suspicions of gendarmerie staff in his accusation.
Attorney Gokalp Kökçü had been carrying out the Hrant Dink probe between January-December 2015 and he has been reassigned to the probe after the July 15 coup attempt.
M.D has been detained and arrested as part of the probe which was launched after the coup attempt.
On July 27, 5 people, including one lieutenant colonel, two noncommissioned officers, one sergeant major and one publisher owner, have been arrested. On July 30, 20 soldiers, including former Trabzon Gendarmerie Intelligence Director Metin Yıldız, have been detained, Gendarmerie Specialized Sergeant Abdullah Dinç was arrested on August 3.
Former provincial Gendarmerie Regimental Commander Colonel Ali Öz and Gendarmerie İntelligence staff Adnan Acar and Musa Yıldırım have been detained. (EA/UA)
