The theater play, “At the Table of the Sun - Nâzım and Brecht,” performed by Genco Erkal and Tülay Günal, has been banned for security reasons within the State of Emergency (OHAL) declared following the coup attempt on July 15.
Before being banned, the play, directed by Genco Erkal, was being performed at the historical open air Mahmut Muhtar Paşa Mansion of Dostlar Theater, located in the yard of İstanbul Kadıköy High School
According to the report of Cumhuriyet Daily, the parent-teacher association of İstanbul Kadıköy High School sent a notice to Dostlar Theater announcing that the event contract had been terminated on grounds of a legal obligation.
The PTA has declared that they have terminated the contract with reference to a notification from the Ministry of National Education on “Measures Concerning Safety and Security” as well as other notifications from the District National Education Directorate.
The play “At the Table of the Sun - Nâzım and Brecht,” brings together two important actors of 20th century literature: Nâzım Hikmet and Bertolt Brecht at the table of the sun.
The play, which is a kind of a music-interview piece, also features compositions of master musicians such as Zülfü Livaneli, Fazıl Say, Timur Selçuk, Cem Karaca and Edip Akbayram. (EKN/DG)
