Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Kamuran Yüksek has been in custody since evening hours yesterday (May 10). He was expected to be delivered to the prosecution today (May 11) but his detention period has been extended one more day.
Yüksek had been taken into custody while leaving the Central Office Consultancy bureau in Diyarbakır. Reportedly, the press statements reflected on the media have been put forward as justification for the custody.
Police have conducted searches in Yüksek’s house and the Central Office Consultancy bureau of DBP. Nothing has been found in the search except some books. Photograph of Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), hanging on the wall in Yüksek’s working room and office in his apartment, some CDs and a bag have been seized.
Yüksek had been taken into custody while leaving his hotel in the morning hours on March 17 in Kars where he had visited for the Newroz celebrations.
It had been stated that the reason for the detention of Yüksek taken to Provincial Security Directorate, was a lawsuit brought over a speech he had made earlier in Batman. Yüksek had been released on the same day after giving testimony. (BK/DG)
About Kamuran Yüksek Kamuran Yüksek born in 1980 in Karayazı district of Eruzurum province studied at Ankara University, Department of Electronic Communicatio. He worked at the youth branch of the Democratic People Party (DEHAP) after the People's Democratic Party (HADEP) was closed. He took place in the Democratic Society Party (DTP) Party Assembly and Central Executive Board, served as vice president. He was in prison for political reasons during the years between 2009-2014. Name of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) has become Democratic Regions Party (DBP) as of July 17, 2014. He is co-chair of the party since that day. |
