Attack was launched on Mermer Gendarmerie Station situated on Diyarbakır-Bingöl highway in Turkey’s southeast by PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) members by bomb-laden vehicle at 9 p.m. last night (March 24).
Following the bombing, fire was opened by long-barreled weapons, conflict broke out. The General Staff announced three soldiers killed, 24 others wounded in the attack.
Diyarbakır 1st Penal Judicatory of Peace has issued broadcast ban as to the bomb attack.
Search and rescue in wreckage
The wounded have been taken to Diyarbakır Military Hospital.
Massive explosion has caused partial wreckage on the station. National Medical Rescue Teams (UMKE) have joined the search and rescue operations.
According to Fırat News Agency (ANF), front building of the station, administration building, cafeteria, and dorms were demolished.
Diyarbakır-Bingöl highway has been closed to traffic due to the explosion. Operation has been launched. (AS/TK)
