The curfew declared on March 15 in Bağlar district of Diyarbakır province in southeastern Turkey has been lifted as of today (March 21).
The announcement on the official website of Diyarbakır Governorship is as follows:
“We have have obtained critical intelligence information that ditches would be digged, barricades would be set up, explosives would be placed on the streets and attacks would be carried out on schools in particular, public institutions and organizations and against the safety of lives and property of our citizens [...]”.
“The curfew declared on March 15, 2016 as of 3 a.m. in entire Kaynartepe neighbourhood of our district and on March 15 as of 12 a.m. on Gürsel street, the area between Cemiloğlu street and Bağlar dört yol as well as entire Nükhet Coşkun street in order to eliminate all these unfavorable conditions and provide security of lives and property of our citizens, has been lifted [...] as of March 2016, 6 a.m.”
The Governorship allowed Newroz celebrations planned in Diyarbakır today.
The curfew declared in Sur district of the province on December 2, 2015 is still in effect. (AS/DG)
