Filmmor, Actors and Actresses Union, and Association of Movie Actors and Actresses have expressed support for actress Füsun Demirel.
Demirel has been dismissed from the TV series NTC Media-made “Family Work” coming out on ATV channel following the interview she gave to journalists.
Demirel in the interview was asked if there is any role she wants to play, and she replied “There are many. For instance, I would love to play the guerilla girls in those mountains. Maybe I will be mother or grandmother of a guerilla. I want to work and produce for the sake of liberation of women. I’ve dedicated my whole life to it, and I’ll continue till I die”.
Filmmor: They cancelled her contract instead of supporting her
Here is the statement of International Mobile Women Films Festival, Filmmor:
“We interpret the delirium generated by people and groups who threaten Füsun Demirel doing nothing but practicing her profession over her words as example of violence.
“Füsun Demirel is an actress and in a newspaper interview talked about a character that she wants to personate. As well known, when actors/actresses die as part of the act they actually don’t die, when they impersonate murderers they don’t murder people, or when they become dictator as part of the act they don’t break the law. We condemn the unilateral cancellation of Demirel’s contract by production company which was supposed to look out for a good actress like Füsun Demirel and protect her following this smear”.
Union: News have been twisted
Statement of Actors and Actresses Union of which Demirel is a member as well is as follows:
“Our member, Füsun Demirel’s contract has been unilaterally cancelled because of the articles contradicting law and human rights. Such articles are included not only in Füsun Demirel’s contract but almost in every contract.
“Our member shared her feelings and thought like anyone’s right to do the same in a democratic country. In this respect, we wish her sincere statements of her after the news about Füsun Demirel are twisted to be reviewed”.
Progressive Movie Actors and Actresses: We oppose threats
Association of Progressive Movie Actors and Actresses in its statement has condemned the threats against their former president Füsun Demirel:
“We follow anxiously the expressions going beyond the limit of criticism and turning into lynch campaign and hate speech taking place on social media and some press organs over her interview published on a newspaper.
“We believe we should do everything in our power to hold stance against all forms of violence instead of pointing individuals as target, alienating them, launching lynch campaigns in this mournful and sensitive period”. (ÇT/TK)
