Voluntary health worker have departed to bring help to the injured waiting to be taken to the hospital in the basement in Cudi neighbourhood of Cizre district in Şırnak for nine days.
14 health workers including nine doctors, four nurses and an ambulance driver who are members of Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and Trade Union of Public Employees in Health and Social Services (SES) have reportedly been stopped on the way to Cizre.
The group have announced on social media, that they have been stopped on a military spot 10 km away from İdil district of Şırnak province.
The names of the health workers on the way to Cizre are as follows: İstanbul Medical Chamber members Dr. İncilay Erdoğan, Attending Dr. Halis Yerlikaya, Ankara Medical Chamber member Dr. Naci Karahancı, Çağla Demir from İstanbul Medical Chamber, SES Batman Branch President anesthesia technician Mustafa Yurtsever, Dr. Sadık Çayan from İstanbul Medical Chamber, Surgeon Dr. Faruk Erin from Batman Medical Chamber, ambulance driver Şerif Taştan, nurse Selma Atay from SES Diyarbakır Branch, nurse Yekta Yıldız, Dr. Ercan Dönmez, Dr. Serhat Yasan, Surgeon Dr. Vahhac Alp and nurse Bahar Sönecek from Diyarbakır Medical Chamber.
MPs on hunger strike
According to Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Faysal Sarıyıldız who has noted that they have not received any information from the injured since yesterday (January 31) evening, seven out of 31 persons in the basement have lost their lives, 15 others are injured and nine are weak and exhausted.
The hunger strike initiated by HDP Group Deputy Chairperson İdris Baluken, HDP Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş and HDP Urfa MP Osman Baydemir demanding to provide transportation of the deads and injured, has entered its sixth day.
Constitutional Court (AYM) has rejected the interlocutory injunction request for the injured in the basement on January 29.
Governorship: “We waited but the injured didn’t come”
Şırnak Governorship has made a statement and claimed that they have sent 10 ambulances and two patient transport vehicles to a location close to the basement yet no injured person has come although they have waited for hours.
The statement included following expressions:
“Although our security forces have been maintaining their battle against terrorism, 10 ambulances and two patient transport vehicles owned by Şırnak and Cizre Municipalities have been sent to a location near the basement over the request of a person who has claimed to be by the injured in the basement and ensured that they would leave the basement and get on the ambulances in case these would arrive yet no one has shown up despite having ensured that they would safely be taken to the hospital, and that waited for hours like we have done in the previous days. Every possible action has been taken regarding the issue yet no positive response has been received from the ones in the basement claimed to be injured. (ÇT/DG)
