Silopi Municipality has commenced working for reconstruction of buildings damaged following curfew that lasted 35 days in Silopi district of Şırnak province.
Silopi Municipality Damage Determination Committee member, Şeyda Ürper in her statement to Dicle News Agency as to works undertaken said there are 350 damaged houses.
Ürper stated that the construction works will begin by the planning to be made by committees that will be formed for the reconstruction following the damage determination.
291 damaged house in one neighborhood
According to report of Yüksekova News, Ürper said the committee consisting of nine people has conducted activity so far in Başak, Barbaros, Nuh, Şehit Harun and Cudi neighborhoods, and that the biggest damage took place in Başak neighborhood.
"We've determined 350 houses in total. 291 houses are damaged and ruined in Başak neighborhood. We especially visit the heavily damaged ones. There is almost no house left without a broken window".
"Many houses have been entirely collapmsed by artillery shootings in Barbaros, Cudi, Şehit Harun and Nuh neighborhoods. There are hundreds of lightly or moderately damaged buildings in other neighborhoods as well. Household furnitures have become unusable. Our works on that continue".
The houses are recorded
Ürper stating they were constantly stopped by police and detained for hours said as follows:
"They surround us and say, 'You don't have authority, you can't wander around here. This happened because of you'. They also make gross accusations. They run criminal record check (GBT) and seize for hours. We in return said, 'We are here for people. We will carry on with these works'.
"We have shot and recorded every house we entered".
Aid call for Silopi
"Since families stay at their relatives' places, families of 15-20 people live at the same house. It must be mobilised for Silopi, Sur and Cizre people as done for Kobanê", Ürper called.
