The number of Nobel Prize winners supporting the declaration of the International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies warning government of Turkey as to attacks on the academics has reached 30.
27 more Nobel Prize winners signed the declaration by January 25 issued via Executive Committee on January 19. There were three Nobel Prize winners at the beginning of the campaign. The declaration says, “We condemn all kinds of threat, false charge, and encouraging violence against these colleagues initiated by government of Turkey”.
The declaration underlining the importance of freedom of expression warns government and university administrators regarding academic liberties.
Following statements are included in the declaration:
“Respecting constitution, being attentive to humanitarian standards for all citizens, and prioritizing peaceful solutions at time of crisis is a civic duty in a democratic country like Turkey”.
