Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will convene in Berlin today (January 22) within the frame of Intergovernmental Strategical Consultations Meeting.
The statement addressing Merkel prepared by a group of artists including Fatih Akın and Sibel Kekilli called on Merkel to bring up rights violations in Turkey.
A large number of human rights defenders, reporters and scientists have signed the statement prepared by a group of artists led by art director of Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, Shermin Langhoff.
Artists and writers asked Merkel to bring up subjects of democracy, law state and pluralism in the meeting.
Amnesty’s call
On the other hand, International Amnesty as well has called for German government as to the rights violations in Turkey.
The amnesty’s Turkey expert, Marie Lucas said, “German government must make sure human rights must be conformed to as it arranges its foreign affairs”. (EKN/TK)
