Support for Academics from Foundation University Students

Foundation Universities Communication and Solidarity Network has noted; “We defend university and peace”.

In the joint statement of students from Maltepe, Özyeğin, Yeditepe, Bilgi, Koç, Aydın and Arel Universities, it has been noted that dismissals, investigations and threats targeting academics signing the declaration “We will not be a party to this crime” had not been able to weaken the will to peace and on the contrary has united different fractions of the society into a part of a bigger solidarity.

The statement included following expressions:

“Foundation Universities are public areas and demanding peace in society and reacting against ones committing crimes against peace constitute actions for public interest.

“As members of foundation universities struggling against academic and social inequalities in these, declare that against all right violations we will follow up all attacks conducted either by the state or the administrations of the universities and as our responsibility fight against these attacks and are going to defend foundation universities as public areas and the university as such.

“We stand by the academics of peace and all others struggling for peace!

“Against all investigations, dismissals, the threats of not renewing contracts and state guided university formation, we call on all members of foundation universities for solidarity and struggle!

“Foundation universities are public areas and not corporations!” (ÇT/DG)
