Besides launching an investigation into the students who had been threatening them, the academics have also demanded the Presidency to file a criminal complaint to the Prosecution against the group on charges of libel, slander and threatening as well as requested the Facebook page of the group to be closed.
The petition submitted to the Presidency by the academics is as follows.
“On January 15, 2016, following the Friday prayer, a group of students calling themselves the ‘Marmara University Nationalists’ distributed brochures in Göztepe Campus targeting the academics who have signed the declaration ‘We will not be a party to this crime’, which has also been announced on the same day on the group’s Facebook page.
“The announcement in the aforementioned page included following expressions:
“This week’s topic for our announcement: So-called academic members, propagandizing for the terrorist organization in our science dorms; traitors in heart appointed to darken our country’s bright future, supporters of baby-murderers who have done their master degree in Cudi and their doctorates in Qandil and who we hope will spend their retirement years in prison. Our leaflets have been distributed in all canteens and cafes of our university. May Holly Allah hear all your prayers”.
On the same Facebook address on January 14, 2016, the names of the academic members and their faculties have been demonstrated with the definition “so-called teachers, traitors in heart”.
Therefore we demand;
1) We demand detecting the students who have taken part in preparation, reproduction and spreading the leaflets by hanging and posting these on the walls and windows on the campus; and then immediately launching disciplinary investigation into these.
2) Following the detection of the students who have taken part in the aforementioned activities, we demand the Rectorship to file criminal complaints to the Prosecution against these on charges of libel, slander and threatening.
3) We demand taking necessary action with regards to applying to Facebook and Telecommunications Communication Presidency (TİB) in order to close the Facebook page of “Marmara University Nationalists” on the grounds of targeting academic members in public by using the name of the Marmara University and inciting to violence and hatred.
