Support for Academics from Litterateurs for Peace Initiative

Litterateurs for Peace Initiative has prepared a text demanding “peace” and declared their support for the academics.

Over 1,400 academics from the world and Turkey had signed the text titled “We will not be a party to this crime” declaring the call to put an end to the prohibitions and violence in Kurdish provinces and start the negotiations. The academics had been called “crappy so-called intellectuals” and targeted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan following which university administrators had begun to launch investigations against the academic members one by one.

“Living, being a free and equal citizen, thinking and expressing constitute fundamental rights. Noting that resisting against violations of these rights and standing by the resistors is an obligation, Litterateurs for Peace Initiative has prepared a support text and has released it to signing/ for signers

The list of the first signers on the website of the initiative includes 164 litterateurs.

The full text on the website is as follows:

“We support the the call for negotiation and peace that was carried out Initiative for Academics for Peace towards government on the 11th January, 2016 with our hearts and pens.

We deny preclusion of freedom of thought and expression.

We are on the side of equality and peace.

We are on the side of right to live

We are on the side of free thought

No ifs no buts: We are not going to be a party to this crime!

We are on the side of the Initiative of Academics for Peace.”
