A blast took place in Sultanahmet Square at 10:20 a.m. (8:20 GTM), the historical peninsula in the European side of İstanbul, 10 people have lost their lives while 15 others wounded in the explosion, İstanbul Governorate stated at 11:30 a.m.
A broadcast ban has been imposed on the incident.
The explosion happened near Dikilitaş (Obelisk).
The boom was heard from Beşiktaş, Taksim, Karaköy districts in the European side, and more farther districts such asKadıköy and Üsküdar in the Asian side.
Tram service on Eminönü-Beyazıt line has been cancelled.
A large number of police and fire squad in addition to bomb squads have been deployed to the scene. The square has been contained by police.
The wounded have been taken into Haseki and Samatya hospitals. (EKN/AS/TK)
