Ankara Chief Prosecution and Diyarbakır Chief Prosecution have launched an investigation due to the statements regarding self-governance.
Following the extraordinary General Assembly held by Democratic Society Congress (DTK) this week in Diyarbakır, investigation has been launched by Diyarbakır Chief Prosecution against Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, HDP Ankara MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder, DTK Co-Chair Hatip Dicle, Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Kamuran Yüksek, DTK Co-Chair Selma Irmak and Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) Co-Spokesperson Sebahat Tuncel.
It has been noted that the investigation has been launched on the ground of “Disrupting the unity and the territorial integrity of the state”, “not being a member of the terrorist organizations but committing crimes on behalf of it”, “propagandizing for the terrorist organization” and “inciting people to commit crimes”.
Ankara Chief Prosecution as well has launched an investigation against Demirtaş due to his statements regarding self-governance on the grounds of the Articles of the Turkish Criminal Law (TCK) concerning “Crimes against constitutional order and its functioning” and within the scope of the crimes; “instigating the people to hatred and hostility” and “praising the crime and the criminal”.
Güneş daily reports, prosecution launches investigation
It has been pointed out that Ankara Chief Prosecution Press Crimes Investigation Board has considered the news about Demirtaş appeared in the press to be denunciation.
According to the report of Cumhuriyet daily, also the headline of Güneş daily from yesterday (December 28) targeting Demirtaş has been considered to be denunciation by the prosecution which has launched an investigation with the claim that “Demirtaş has called for an uprising using Kobane as an excuse”.
Yesterday’s Güneş daily had been issued with Demirtaş’s photograph and the headline “What else needed?” and with the spot including the expressions “[Demirtaş] has caused 50 deaths with his call for uprising showing Kobane as an excuse. Finally threatens to divide Turkey. Despite all of these, judiciary has taken no action”. (ÇT/DG)
