Curfew Lifted in Nusaybin

The curfews in 15 neighbourhoods of Nusaybin district of Mardin province were lifted as of 10 a.m. today (December 24). This was the sixth curfew declared in the district.

The curfew had been continuing in Abdulkadirpaşa, Fırat, Dicle and Yenişehir neighbourhoods of the district since December 14.

On December 21, curfew had been declared in Yenituran, Yeşilkent, Mor Yakup, Zeynelabidin, Kışla, 8 Mart, Gırnavas, Devrim, Selahaddin Eyyubi, İpekyolu and Barış neighbourhoods.

Nusaybin District Governorship made the following statement on its official web page today (December 24):

“The curfew declared following the ascending terrorist incidents in our district, according to the relevant provisions of the Law for Provincial Administration No. 5442 in the designated regions (Abdulkadirpaşa, Fırat, Dicle, Yenişehir, Yenituran, Yeşilkent, Mor Yakup, Zeynelabidin, Kışla, 8 Mart, Gırvanas, Devrim, Selahaddin Eyyubi, İpekyolu and Barış neighbourhoods) to provide security of life and property of our citizens, to re-establish the peace and security environment and to prevent civilians from getting harmed is lifted as of December 24, 2015, Thursday, 10 a.m.

“We would like to thank our citizens for their sensitivity to the curfew imposed for the purpose of providing their own security of life and property”.

Prohibitions in Nusaybin

Nusaybin district of Mardin province has been in 29 days of curfew since June 7, the district with the maximum number of bans declared.

With 14 days, Nusaybin is also the district where the longest curfew has been imposed.

1 - 6 October: Governorship of Mardin has declared curfew in Gİrmeli, Eskihisar, Tepeüstü and Kayadibi neighbourhoods of Nusaybin district which has lasted six days.

13 - 26 November: Curfew has been declared for 14 days in Nusaybin district of Mardin.

Gülser Yıldırım, Mardin MP of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has explained the situation in the district as “There is a blockade here, an attempt of massacre, but no power and no water. People can not get out of their doors not to speak of going to the grocery store. The shops are also closed anyway. A one-day pause was made to allow the neighbourhood residents cover their needs. Nine persons have lost their lives during the curfew".

29 November - 3 December: The curfew in Nusaybin District of Mardin Province has continued for five days.

6 - 9 December: The curfew declared in Nusaybin on December 6 was lifted after three days on December 9 in the evening.

14 December: Curfew was declared again in Nusaybin district of Mardin province. The curfew imposed in four neighbourhoods was temporarily lifted on December 18 for seven hours. On December 21, curfew was declared in additional 11 neighbourhoods. (AS/DG)
