A great number of people have been detained and many people were injured during the demonstrations in Istanbul on the first anniversary of Gezi Resistance last Saturday.
Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) announced that at least 126 demonstrators were detained and Human Rights Association (IHD) declared that 13 were injured.
“Today, we had a good day. İstanbul looks better thanks to peace and security,” Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Selami Altınok said during his visit to the police who were on duty.
Seven attorneys were detained
Progressive Lawyers Association informed 203 custodies to İstanbul crises desk throughout Saturday. It stated that 126 people have been remanded in custody at various police stations in Taksim, Beşiktaş, Bağcılar districts and Istanbul’s police headquarters at Vatan Avenue.
It was also reported that seven ÇHD attorneys including three executives were detained in Ankara, İzmir, Adana and İstanbul.

Altınok: Four police were injured
İstanbul Provincial Police Chief Selami Altınok inspected the police officers on active duty in Taksim Square.
"People of Istanbul behaved in a responsible and good manner. And they didn't participate to these demonstrations too much. We and our police colleagues had a good day without having serious incidents. İstanbul looks better thanks to peace and security," Altınok said.
"The sustainability of peace and security is very important both for Turkey and the people in Istanbul. I would like to thank all İstabulites. I want to thank to our officers, police and high-ranking security staff," he said.
"Our several friends were also injured; a police were wounded due to gun fire, a vice chief of police were injured due to Molotov bomb and our 4 officer were injured. I wish them a quick recovery. We controlled the incidents in a best way. Now the certain number of the detainees is not clear now, but it is approx. 120," he added. (ÇT/CB/BM)
