Workers Died on Workers' Day

A worker died in Istanbul due to an explosion in a foundry, an art assistant died at a film set in Kağıthane, İstanbul and a worker died in Ankara on May 1.

3 workers died in accidents occurred at their workplaces while Turkey was celebrating May 1. 24 years old Ersin Kaya died due to an explosion at Özbir Metal Company in Bayrampaşa, İstanbul; 28 years old Dursun Çiftçi got injured in the explosion. 26 years old art assistant Selin Erdem died in a traffic accident at a film set in Kağıthane, İstanbul; two people got injured due to this accident. 43 years old Mehmet Doğan was trapped in the wreckage at a canal work and died in Ankara.

Explosion in Bayrampaşa

An explosion occurred at a foundry in Bayrampaşa around 21:00. According to the news in the newspapers, workers used thinner in order to accelerate the fire and the boiler exploded. Kaya died immediately and Çiftçi slightly injured.  "We made the necessary research and gave a temporary license to this company. However in terms of the materials they produce, they had to apply to İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality and they applied. This kind of industrial sites must be far from residential areas" said Bayrampaşa Mayor Atilla Aydıner. A police investigation is opened about the incident.

Traffic accident at the film set

Film set workers had a break yesterday evening around 19:00. Suddenly, the minibus of the crew couldn't stop and hit them while they were sitting at the pavement. Driver İdris F. and Ömer Özcan got injured and 26 years old Selin Erdem died in the accident.

Company officials are in custody

Mehmet Doğan was working for the Bağlıca canal project of Ankara Water and Sewerage Authority (ASKİ) and he went down 3 meters deep in the canal. He was trapped in the wreckage and he died. According to the news in the newspapers, the company officials are in custody in order to give statement. (AS)
