On the occasion of September 25 World Pharmacists Day tomorrow, pharmacists in Turkey will black out their social media profiles in memory of their colleagues who died of COVID-19 across the world.
Pharmacists will join the social media campaign under the hashtags #yaşatmakiçinyaşamakistiyoruz (We want to live to keep alive) and #rengimizikaybediyoruz (We are losing our color).
The campaign is expected to be supported by pharmacists all around the world, especially by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).
'Pharmacists' role is of vital importance'
FIP Chair pharmacist Dominique Jordan has also made a brief statement about the issue. "COVID-19 has caused disruptions in several services across the world and unfortunately led to several deaths, including our colleagues," Jordan has said and briefly added:
"The FIP Virtual 2020 opening ceremony also witnessed a commemoration for our colleagues who lost their lives as they kept on offering pharmaceutical services to their societies during the outbreak. Several pharmacists from Turkey were also commemorated in the ceremony.
"The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) stands in solidarity with the Turkish Pharmacists' Association to commemorate these heroes of pharmaceutics. We have learned several lessons in the last few months, but this outbreak has also confirmed something that we have always known: The role of pharmacists is of vital importance for global health."
'We don't want to burn out'
Turkish Pharmacists' Association Chair Erdoğan Çolak has also made a brief statement about the awareness campaign launched by the association:
"The course of the pandemic is getting more and more grave, the burden on the shoulders of health workers is getting heavier with each passing day. With our blacked out profiles, we want to commemorate our deceased colleagues all around the world and to stand in homage in their memory. We say that we are losing our color because we are burning out.
"On the one side, we are fighting the pandemic; on the other, we are trying to protect ourselves from increasing incidences of violence. We don't want to lose our color, we don't want to burn out because we, together with our colleagues all over the world, want to live to keep alive."
