The “Voluntary Reporter” campaign launched by the Free Journalists Association (ÖGC) will continue in İstanbul after Dicle News Agency’s (DİHA) Çukurova Area Bureau.
For the Marmara Region leg of the campaign, a press statement was made in front of the building of Özgür Gündem daily, which has been shut down and raided by police in İstanbul’s Taksim district.
ÖGC Board member Günay Aksoy recalled that the journalists writing the truth are being detained and arrested in Turkey.
Aksoy highlighting that the crackdowns on Kurdish press are increasing, recalled that 41 press employees are arrested and that the “Voluntary Reporter” campaign has been launched to act in solidarity.
It started on August 13
The campaign started on August 13 in Diyarbakır. Peace Mothers, Human Rights Association Diyarbakır Branch Chair Raci Bilici, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Meral Danış Beştaş, Faysal Sarıyıldız, Hatun Alataş, the mother of Azadiya Welat daily employee Metin Alataş, who was killed in Adana in 2010 and many others supported the campaign as “voluntary reporters”.
