20 academics who signed the declaration entitled “We will not be a party to this crime” issued by the Academics for Peace (BAK) have been suspended from the Anadolu University
Assist. Prof. Dr. Uğur Kara from the Department of Law speaking to bianet commented as to their dismissals that, “As the dismissals against the Gülen Community are ongoing, they are intending to involve us, whom they consider a threat or divert people’s attention away”.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Pelin Yalçınoğlu from the Faculty of Education stated that they didn’t see this decision coming since no order was issued in the probes and that they are in a situation which doesn’t require circumspection for over six months.
Eskişehir Peace Academics announced that a press statement will be held at the Anadolu University, Yunus Emre Campus, at 12:30 p.m. in protest of the dismissals. However, the Governorship responded that it will not allow the statement to be made due to the State of Emergency.
The Academics for Peace evaluated the decision as “an attempt to distract attention, win favor of local and general government groups by those, who fear the probes launched into the Gülen Community might stretch out to themselves”.
They demanded immediate release of the academics. (BK/TK)
