Bilgi University Lays Off Academic over ‘Insulting President’

İstanbul Bilgi University has laid off Prof. Dr. Zeynep Sayın Balıkçıoğlu following the news of her insulting the President.

The university has issued the following statement following the decision of discharge:

“We would like to fill in the public as to Prof. Dr. Zeynep Sayın Balcıoğlu who is stated to use expressions involving insults against Mr. President Recep Tayip Erdoğan during a lecture.

Relation of the Prof. Dr. Balıkçıoğlu who worked as academic member in the Spring term of 2016 has been severed with our institution”.

Pro-government Sabah daily had pointed her as target

News of Prof. Balıkçıoğlu insulting the President, defaming Turkishness, and suggesting her students to read Bible and Torah had appeared in pro-government Sabah daily.

The academic was pointed as target in the article by the expressions such as “Zeynep Sayın Balıkçıoğlu who insulted national values and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is not satisfied with it”, “It has come out that no action has been taken against Professor Bedra Zeynep Sayın Balıkçıoğlu”. (EA/TK)
