In response to the lawsuit filed by Kaş Tourism and Publicity Association, Ankara Chamber of Landscape Architects and 77 villagers against "Kaş-Kalkan Highway" project prepared by 13th Regional (Antalya) Directorate of Highways, Antalya 2nd Administrative Court has ruled that the project shall be canceled.
Arguing that "Kaş-Kalkan Highway" project, which covers a 29 kilometer-wide highland area and foresees the construction of four viaducts and three tunnels in the district of Kaş in Antalya, threatens the ecosystem and agricultural activities in Kaş as the only sustainable tourism area in Turkey, the people of Kaş have expressed their content with the cancellation ruling of the Administrative Court.
The ruling was announced during the solidarity walk
The ruling which cancels the highway project was first announced on Sunday (March 25) during the solidarity walk organized against the construction of the highway.
Over 150 people from the region as well as several NGOs from Kaş and Antalya attended the event. The solidarity walk jointly organized by the people of Kaş and Kaş Tourism and Publicity Association was held in Çukurbağ village, which is a part of the Kaş-Kalkan Highway project.
The participants walked through the fields and forests that are planned to be a part of the highway project and witnessed how the nature, natural and archeological sites and villages will be affected by the project. (PT/SD)
