Hacısalihoğlu: How Will They Play Golf Against Wild Waves of Black Sea?

Yomra Municipality in Trabzon has announced that an 18-hole golf course will be built in 300 decare of the 650 decare bulkhead line on which a social complex will be built.

According to Doğan News Agency, Yomra Mayor İbrahim Sarıoğlu said that the project, which will cost 50 million liras (11 million euros), will start in 2018 and the project will include plans such as green field and rest areas.

The municipality hasn’t made an application to the ministry since it hasn’t completed the development but it was ruled that “Environmental Impact Report” is needed for the golf course to be built on bulkhead line in Samsun.

“There won’t be Black Sea anchovy anymore”

Hatice Hacısalihoğlu from the Karadeniz İsyandadır Platform (Black Sea in on Uprise) explained the possible effects of the project:

“Spawning areas of the fish were already destroyed with the Black Sea Coastal Road. As the marine ecosystem is now totally spoiled, there won’t be any Black Sea anchovy or any other fish. Besides, the bulkhead lines are constructed with the stones obtained by means of exploding villages, which means the annihilation of thousands of trees and species.

“Yomra is one of the flattest places in Trabzon. Those bulkhead lines are now filled with high-rise appartments. We don’t know how they will play golf against wild waves of the Black Sea”. (TP/TK/LN)
